Realisations of wooden terrace blinds
The OpenUp movable plank system is used in the build-up:

- garden buildings.
We install wooden terrace blinds both vertically and horizontally. The system makes it possible to create:

The most common realisations are made of wooden pine boards with a cross-section of 9.8 × 2 cm cooperating with OpenUp System handles.
Wooden terrace blinds work well for modern pergolas, balconies in blocks of flats and classic backyard terraces. Movable boards allow you to regulate light, ventilation and the level of shading of the space.

Wooden terrace blinds - natural terrace and balcony cladding
Wooden patio blinds are a way to shield your terrace, balcony, gazebo or pergola from the sun, wind and the stares of your neighbours. A system of movable boards allows you to regulate the amount of light and ventilation exactly as you require.
At Otwrane.co.uk you will find wooden terrace blinds based on OpenUp System movable grip system. The boards can be positioned at the desired angle, completely open or closed. The system allows you to create both single side covers and a full terrace or balcony enclosure.
How do wooden terrace blinds work?
The system is based on movable handles cooperating with wooden boards with a cross section of 9.8 × 2 cm. With a single movement, you move the boards into the desired position:
- partially open,
- completely open,
- closed.
This solution allows control:
- amount of light,
- ventilation,
- level of privacy,
- shelter from light rain and wind.
Wood blinds work well with:
- terraces,
- balconies,
- pergolas,
- arbours,
- sheds,
- garden development.
Why are wooden patio blinds so popular?
Wood gives a natural effect that blends well with the facade of the house, the garden and the terrace development. Wooden terrace blinds do not look technical or visually heavy. They allow you to create a more cosy seating area.
The big advantage of wood is that you can finish it yourself. You can:
- treated with an impregnating agent,
- paint,
- stain,
- varnish.
In our offer you will find:
- Terrace louvres unpainted wood (pine),
- Painted wooden blinds,
- elements for independent terrace and balcony construction.
Terrace cladding with wooden blinds
Movable wooden blinds work well both as a single side screen and as a full terrace enclosure. You can create:
- permanent buildings,
- opening wings,
- sliding buildings,
- larger modules put together.
The system allows you to screen the terrace without completely enclosing the space. You still retain access to light and ventilation.

How do I install wooden patio blinds?
The OpenUp wooden terrace blind system has been designed for simple and repeatable installation. You can install it yourself on a terrace, balcony, pergola, gazebo or shed.
The basis of the system are movable handles that work with wooden boards with a cross-section of 9.8 × 2 cm. The mechanism makes it possible to adjust the position of the boards with a single hand movement.
Step-by-step assembly
1. Prepare the structure
Check before starting the installation:
- building width and height,
- risers and levels of the structure,
- place of attachment of handles.
The system can be assembled:
- Horizontally,
- within a wooden framework,
- in aluminium frames.
2. mount the handles
The brackets are attached to the frame or supporting structure. It is very important to maintain even spacing and mounting axes. This affects the subsequent smooth running of the blind.
3. fix the wooden planks
The planks are mounted in the movable holders of the OpenUp system. When all elements are assembled, the enclosure functions as a single coherent mechanism.
4. set the shutter operation
Once assembled, you can set:
- degree of opening,
- amount of light,
- ventilation,
- the level of protection of the terrace or balcony.
Is it difficult to install wooden blinds?
The system was designed with self-assembly in mind. Most customers do the installation themselves using basic tools.
If you need help:

- board lengths,
- element spacing,
- type of development,

Important information before installation
Wooden boards intended for outdoor use should be adequately protected with impregnation, varnish or protective paint.
Before installation it is also worthwhile:
- check the opening direction of the fitting,
- plan the construction divisions,
- take into account ventilation and drainage,
- choose the right colour of bracket to match the construction of the terrace or pergola.

Frequently asked questions
Do wood blinds for the terrace protect from the sun?
Yes. Movable boards allow you to regulate the amount of light entering your terrace or balcony. You can either open the enclosure completely or position the planks at the angle of your choice, creating shade and reducing heat build-up in the space.
Do wooden patio blinds protect against rain?
Blinds help to reduce the blowing of light rain and wind onto the terrace. However, they are not an airtight enclosure like glazing systems or solid walls. They are NOT suitable for roofs. Roof blinds must have a special profile for water drainage to work.
Will wooden blinds work well on a balcony?
Yes. The system is very often used to enclose balconies in blocks and flats. It allows you to shield your balcony from neighbours and the sun without completely closing off the space.
What woods are used in terrace blinds?
Wooden pine planks are available in our range. You can order them raw or painted.
Do wooden planks need to be protected?
Yes. Wood used outdoors needs to be properly protected with impregnation, varnish or protective paint. Regular maintenance extends the life of the building.
Can wooden blinds be painted any colour?
Yes. You can paint, stain or varnish the wooden planks to suit the look of the façade, pergola or terrace.
How do movable wooden blinds work?
The system works on movable OpenUp System handles. With a single movement, you adjust the boards to the angle you want or close the enclosure completely.
Is it difficult to install wooden blinds?
The system has been prepared for self-assembly. Ready-to-use kits and installation instructions are available in the shop.
What are the dimensions of the shutter boards?
The boards used in the system have a cross-section of 9.8 × 2 cm. Different lengths are available to suit the width of the development.
Can I order boards cut to size?
Yes. We cut the boards purchased from us to the dimensions indicated.
Can wooden blinds be installed horizontally and vertically?
Although the system allows both horizontal and vertical installation, we do NOT RECOMMEND installing the boards vertically. Wood is a living material. Installed vertically, especially in long lengths, it can warp.
Do wooden blinds provide privacy?
Yes. When the boards are closed, the enclosure effectively reduces visibility from the outside and improves the comfort of the terrace or balcony.
Can wooden patio blinds be extended in the future?
Yes. The system allows the body to be extended in stages with additional modules or side walls.
