What are shutters?
Shutters are panels with lamellas (slats) embedded in a frame, installed as covers for windows, terraces, balconies or gazebos. A key feature of shutters is the adjustment of the angle of the slats (manual or mechanical), which allows the amount of light, privacy and airflow to be controlled without completely closing off the space. In outdoor applications, they are most often made of aluminium or wood (also with wood veneer) to ensure weather resistance. Key defining elements: Panel construction - each section is a self-supporting frame with slats; panels can be combined to form larger shades. Adjustable lamellas - the rotation of the lamellas varies the sunlight, outside view and ventilation (light yes/wind less). Materials - aluminium (lightweight, anti-corrosive, low maintenance), wood (natural appearance; requires periodic impregnation), or aluminium profiles with woodgrain veneer. Installation and places of use - on pergolas, gazebos, terrace walls, balcony railings; panels can be fixed, opening or sliding. Usage functions - protection from sun, wind, rain and insight; improved thermal comfort (less heat in summer, wind barrier in winter); aesthetically pleasing finish to façade and leisure area. Made to measure - shutters are designed for a specific opening/frame to maintain tightness, even slat operation and consistency with the style of the building. The difference from "patio blinds" - this is sometimes confused in colloquial language, but technically shutters are framed panels with adjustable lamellas (a more 'joinery' and decorative solution), while patio blinds can mean a frameless lamella system or in simpler guides. Both solutions cover, but shutters place more emphasis on panel form, privacy and aesthetics. How do you keep exterior shutters clean?
Simply wipe the laths with a soft, damp cloth. It is a good idea to impregnate the wooden parts periodically. OpenUp System handles can be easily removed from the boards and painted in any colour.
Are shutters resistant to frost and sun?
Yes. Both the aluminium and fibreglass versions retain their properties in a wide range of temperatures from frost to heat.
Can I install the shutters myself?
Yes. Each kit includes detailed instructions. Assembly requires no specialist tools - just a few hours of work and basic equipment
